Your favorite Pacific division team: Los Angeles Kings
Can’t say I’m a hardcore Kings fan, because I’ll also cheer on Anaheim. It’s all because of the players on those teams. Anaheim I only like because of Teemu Selanne, but he is one of the best wingers ever to play, and Scott Niedermayer when he was there. Surely, true NHL fans who love the Kings at least respect Selanne. Los Angeles I like primarily because of Dustin Brown, Drew Doughty, and Anze Kopitar, and I have more of a reason now that Justin Williams is there from Carolina, and Rob Scuderi, my favorite defenseman in Pittsburgh.
The Kings have a great young team. They now have a formidable top 6, led by Kopitar and Mike Richards at center, and Dustin Brown and Williams at wing. Gagne should play well there, considering his buddy Richards is a newcomer, too, and hopefully Dustin Penner will start playing as he used to. Their defense full of talent, with Drew Doughty and Jack Johnson leading the way, and vets Greene, Mitchell, and Scuderi there, too. Quick played fantastic in goal last year and should continue this season, and Bernier will one day be a stellar NHL goaltender.
I honestly believe that either the Kings or Vancouver will represent the West in the Stanley Cup this year. I’m hoping LA gets there.
My opinion of Sid the Kid? Well, quite frankly, I think he’s the best player in the NHL today. I don’t even think it’s a question anymore. Last season just shows it all. He only played in half of the games before going out with a concussion, and at the end of the season, was tied for 30th in the league in points. 32 goals, 34 assists, 66 points, in only 41 games? That’s insane. That’s like how it was back in the day.
To anyone who says Ovechkin is better: OV played 79 games, scoring 32 goals. Sid the Kid? the same amount of goals in a mere 41 games. They tied for 14th in the league in goals. Shots and %: OV 367 shots, 8.7%. Sid? 161 shots, 19.9% rate. Ovechkin continues to lead the league in shots. Crosby does everything on the ice, and has lit the lamp many times in the past two seasons. He’s led his NHL team to a Stanley Cup, and his national team to a Gold Medal. OV has done nothing when it counts.
Pittsburgh in the East, if Sidney Crosby is healthy and continues last season’s performance. He was unstoppable until his concussion, and the rest of the team really stepped up in his absence, and will likely keep it up come this season.
I think it’ll be either Vancouver or Los Angeles from the West if Crosby doesn’t continue his performance. Vancouver only really lost Ehrhoff and added offensive depth. LA now has two formidable offensive lines, centered by Kopitar and Mike Richards. Quick played really well last season, and Bernier will one day be a top NHL goaltender. Once an agreement with Drew Doughty is worked out, they will have a strong defense as well.
It seems all the Canes fans like the Pens as well. Maybe its because of Jordan Staal (who’s brother Eric is the Canes captain), or Ron Francis’s (Hall of Famer who’s #10 is retired by Carolina) time there. But I got into them back when I got in to hockey. Sid the Kid is unlike any player in today’s NHL. He’s simply the best in the game today. Fleury is a real character in the NHL, and I also liked Max Talbot a lot.
